Jothi Charles was born in Kochi to parents who belonged to the Kerala State of India. His schooling was in Chennai where his parents lived and he graduated in Electrical Engg in a university in Tamil Nadu. He was drawn to spiritual teachings by reading Vivekananda and Gita first and then Sri Aurobindo and The Mother. He started visiting Sri Aurobindo Ashram and Auroville since 1986 even as he worked in Indian Airforce and later a civil organization of govt. of India. Resigning from his job, he came to Auroville in 2002 where he worked in its Electrical Service. Since 2005 he has been a full time teacher in Auroville Institute of Applied Technology and in his spare time enjoys writing articles in Auronet on issues that he feels are important for true development of Auroville and as an exercise to help the manifestation of Truth within himself and in the society.
